ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A report of shots fired near an Alexandria restaurant led to an early morning police chase and crash just over the Maryland state line.

Alexandria Police say officers were sent to the IHOP in the 3400 block of Jefferson Davis Highway shortly after 3:00 Wednesday morning after someone reported shots had been fired nearby. Once police arrived in the area they spotted a suspect vehicle driving away. The suspects fled the area as the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and eventually jumped on the Outer Loop of the Beltway heading towards Maryland.

The chase came to an abrupt end when the suspect's vehicle crashed on the ramp from the Outer Loop to northbound I-295, just passed the Wilson Bridge.

Police say two suspects are now in custody, one of whom was evaluated by paramedics. No one was seriously injured.

The ramp was blocked for a couple hours while police conducted their investigation.
