SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue fire investigators say they have charged a man for setting a fire on Saturday.
Thirty-five-year-old William J. Soper of Giltinan Court is accused of intentionally setting fire to some telephone books in a middle unit basement townhouse. The fire causing minor damage to the home, say officials.
Officials also say a battery-powered smoke alarm was disabled, but aa commercial fire alarm activated to alert the alarm company. The company then notified the fire and rescue department, according to officials.
Firefighters arrived at the scene on Saturday and quickly extinguished the fire.
The damage is estimated at $300, say officials.
Soper was charged with Virginia Code 18.2-86, a Class six felony.
