CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS 19) -- Authorities announced an arrest in the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy.
A press release from the FBI says an individual was taken into custody and charged with abduction. However, officials did not identify the suspect and say the investigation is ongoing. The Nelson County Sheriff's Department says the suspect was not processed in their building on Sunday night.
An 11:30 a.m. news conference has been scheduled for Monday.
Nelson Court records indicate Randy Allen Taylor was arrested yesterday on a charge of abduction by intimidation or force. The offense date listed on the report is August 3. Officials have not said if this arrest is linked to Alexis Murphy's disappearance.
The FBI has not said what condition Murphy is in, or if she has even been found. However, at the bottom of the news release announcing the arrest, the FBI asks the public to "please continue to contact authorities at 434/263-7050 with any information that would assist in locating Alexis and /or creating a time-line for authorities of her activities before her disappearance."
A witness, Dennis Simpson, tells CBS19 he saw about 15 FBI agents and police officers swarm a house right across the street from Cannery Loop off of Rt. 29 in Nelson County with dogs at around 4:30 Sunday afternoon. Simpson lives right across the street from the house. He says he could not see the person but saw officers and dogs arrive and immediately run up the driveway. Simpson says in waves, agents came back to their cars in the street holding items while wearing blue gloves and taking photographs.
The FBI will not confirm the name of the suspect or any information involving Alexis. They say it is still an ongoing investigation.
