Ex-Culpeper Officer Faces Sentencing In Woman's Death

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) - A former Culpeper police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman is going back to court for sentencing.

A jury convicted 33-year-old Daniel Harmon-Wright on manslaughter and unlawful shooting charges in January. The Culpeper Star-Exponent (http://bit.ly/ZBBLcq) reports that Harmon-Wright is scheduled to be sentenced at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Culpeper Circuit Court.

Harmon-Wright was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot when he shot 54-year-old Patricia Ann Cook on Feb. 9, 2012. He claimed he shot Cook after she attempted to drive away in her vehicle with his arm caught in the window.

A $5 million wrongful lawsuit death lawsuit filed against Harmon-Wright by Cook's family is pending.
