FRANCONIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Friday, Fairfax County police say they have solved the mystery surrounding Biscuit the Shih-Tzu's past.

You may remember the story of the capture of Biscuit, who roamed a Franconia neighborhood for more than two years.

Police now say the former owner lived near the spot Biscuit had roamed since being reported lost on September 30, 2010. Police say the owner told them Biscuit fled the day after he was purchased from a breeder listed on CraigsList. Police say the owner posted flyers all over the neighborhood and searched for months. She thought that she would never see him again, say police.

The woman now has another dog, and police say after much consideration she decided to surrender Biscuit to the animal shelter.

Biscuit will stay in foster care for a while and then be available for adoption. The process could take several months. According to police, there are already dozens of potential adopters and the shelter will accept more applications and choose the best home for Biscuit.
