FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- A call for a suspicious person with a firearm turned out to be someone in medical need, Fairfax County Police said.
Officers responded to the Melvue Court off of Route 50 after a person reported that they believed to have seen a suspicious person with a long handgun inside a van, police said.
Due to the nature of the report, police responded in a tactical manner and Greenbrier East Elementary School was asked to delay the dismissal of students who lived in the neighboring area, police said.
Officers noticed the man needed medical attention once they approached the vehicle, police said.
EMS was called out to the scene and the man was treated.
It is not clear what sort of medical attention the man needed but it was non-life threatening, the Fairfax County Police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson was not informed if there was indeed a weapon in the vehicle.
