ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials say two adults and two children escaped a fire at their home in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County on Monday night.

According to fire officials, the fire started shortly before 7:35 p.m. in the 3000 block of Marl-Pat Drive. When firefighters arrived, the family had already escaped unharmed.

Firefighters found that the fire had started in the laundry room and spread to the back wall of the house, say officials. They were able to get the fire under control in  less than 15 minutes, according to officials, but the fire still left behind approximately $60,000 worth of damage.

The  incident commander said an electrical source in the laundry room caused the fire, according to officials.
