Cherry Blossom Festival Opening This Saturday in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C., (WUSA9) -- The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off the 101st celebration at the Warner Theater.

WUSA 9 anchor, Jessica Doyle, hosted the festivities featuring both Japanese and U.S. artists, Saturday, March 23, 2013.

American platinum-recording artist, Andy Grammer, appeared on stage along with Japanese artists such as Junko Yagami, Senri Oe.

The Cherry Blossom Festival represents a new season and a chance to enjoy the blooming flowers while they last, according to the Japanese Minister Masato Otaka.

"This is to celebrate the arrival of spring. But the Cherry Blossoms also represents ephemeral beauty as well," Otaka said.

"It will arrive, you can celebrate, but it will go away very quickly. So have to make use of the time that we do, we can enjoy the Cherry Blossom." 

The recording jazz group, Chihiro Yamanaka Trio, and violinist Nanae Iwata also appeared.

WUSA 9 will host the Cherry Blossom Parade on April 13, 2013 from noon to 2 p.m. 

The Cherry Blossom Festival runs through April 14th.
