WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A Woodbridge woman is in trouble after police say she fled from the scene of a hit and run crash and then lied to officers.
On Monday at approximately 6 p.m., officers talked to "the victim" of a hit and run in the area of Minnieville Road and Spriggs Road in Woodbridge. The woman told police that she was struck by a vehicle while making a left hand turn from Minnieville Road onto Spriggs Road. When the woman pulled over to exchange information with the other driver, she says the driver fled the scene.
A witness later gave a description of the striking vehicle, and officers tracked down the driver. That driver then told police that she was struck and that the other driver fled the area. Police determined that the original accuser had lied.
Twenty-five-year-old Destini Shawnice Swails of Woodbridge was charged with hit & run and filing a false police report
Swails was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond, say police.
