Gregory Lee Holley Sr. Killed in Woodbridge Armed Robbery

Aric Smith is being charged with first degree murder, armed robbery, and using a firearm in commission of a felony, police said.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A former ATF agent was murdered while walking his dog on Wednesday night in Woodbridge, police said. 

Gregory Holley Sr., 55, of Woodbridge, was shot while he was walking his dog at just before 9:40 p.m. on the 3700 block of Wertz Drive. That's when police got a call for shots fired in the area. 

Police say when they got to the scene, they found Holley wounded on the ground and witnesses who say they saw the suspect running away from the scene. 

That suspect, Aric Alexander Smith, 25, of Woodbridge, was caught nearby, with the weapon used in the crime, police said. 

"... The accused shot the victim and took property belonging to the victim before fleeing the area. The accused was found to have some personal property belonging to the victim on his person at the time of the arrest," police said in a news release. 

Smith is being charged with first degree murder, armed robbery, and using a firearm in commission of a felony, police said. 

His court date set for June 19, and he's being held without bond.
