CHANTILLY, Va. (WUSA) - The President's plan to ban assault weapons and limit high powered magazines is exactly what gun enthusiasts have been worried about.
Since the massacre in Connecticut last month, gun stores have had a hard time keeping all kinds of guns in stock.
But guns and ammunition aren't the only thing flying off shelves; so are gun safety and concealed carry courses.
More than 900 people have bought a Groupon for a 4-hour multi-state concealed firearms course being offered by the Chantilly firearms training company Innovations Defensive Solutions. For $79, two people can be trained for permits recognized in Utah, Virginia and Florida. It allows concealed carry in 36 states because of reciprocity between states.
Innovative Defensive Solutions President and Founder Evan Carson says he's never sold so many courses at one time. He put up the Groupon in October, but Groupon took it town after the Sandy Hook shootings. It went back up recently and took off. The course locations have not been finalized yet.
There's been so much interest in gun training, the Chantilly gun store and shooting range Blue Ridge Arsenal has added a 3rd gun safety course to the weekly schedule. But, the popular Blue Ridge doesn't has no plans to offer a Groupon.
"There's no company that needs to put out a Groupon, there's so much interest, to be honest with you," said David Rojas of Blue Ridge.
There is one of the President's gun control measures people at the shooting range agree with. That's mandating background checks for all gun sales...even private ones.
