FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (WUSA) - The fatal shooting of a Virginia man in 1980 has been solved, according to Fauquier County authorities.
The Commonwealth's Attorney of Fauquier County, Jim Fisher and Fauquier County Sheriff Charlie Ray Fox, Jr. jointly announced authorization for warrants in the New Year's Eve 1980 slaying of Brad Baker at Kinloch Farm in Northern Fauquier County.
The unnamed defendant will be identified at a 1 p.m. Tuesday press conference. He is scheduled to be extradited from West Virginia and brought to Fauquier County to face criminal charges. He will be arraigned in the Fauquier County General District Court and a preliminary hearing date will be set by the court.
Brad Baker was shot to death in his home on December 31, 1980. He was 30 years old at the time of his death. Over the course of time, leads and different theories were followed without any resolution.
Recent progress in new investigative techniques and avenues of inquiry led to the positive identification of the defendant and other witnesses, authorities said.
