HERNDON, Va. (WUSA) -- A Herndon Police officer attempted to stop an SUV for speeding on Tuesday morning when the driver took off resulting in an accident in Herndon.
Police say the SUV drove into a shopping center parking lot like it was going to pull over, but took off onto Elden Street. This began a police chase that continued to Dranesville Road and Herndon Parkway.
The pursuit was terminated by a Herndon Police supervisor as the vehicles involved approached the area of Herndon High School. Moments later the SUV ran a red light at the intersection of Dranesville Road and Wiehle Avenue, colliding with a red sedan before flipping several times, Police said.
According to police, both the driver and passenger were trapped in the SUV and the roof had to be cut. The two were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Police say no injuries were reported in the red car that was hit by the SUV.
