ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA) -- Loudoun County Sheriff's Office authorities say a corrections officer was charged after a fight with a friend on Thursday.
Twenty-nine-year-old Robert B. DeGroot of Ashburn is charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and strangle another causing wounding or injury.
A 28-year-old man met office outside a home on Bruceton Mills Circle in Ashburn at 7 p.m. and told them DeGroot assaulted him while they were doing work on the home, say authorities. The man was treated for his injuries at a hospital and later released.
Authorities say DeGroot is a seven-year veteran of the sheriff's office and is assigned to the Corrections and Courts Services Division. He is on administrative leave and his law enforcement powers have been suspended while the investigation continues.
DeGroot is being held in jail without bond.
