Tasheik Ashanti Champean Guilty To 2010 Murder In Fairfax, Va.

ALEXANDRIA, Va.(WUSA) -- Tasheik Ashanti Champean plead guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and murder a man at a home in 2010, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia informed in a press release. 

According to court records, the 46-year-old conspired with two other men to rob the owner of several check cashing stores at gunpoint at the man's home in Centreville. The men believed the victim kept the stores' money at his home.

On May 17, 2010, One of the suspects drove Champean and Reynard Lazaro Prather to the store owner's home. They entered the garage carrying semi-automatic pistols and waited for the victim's arrival. While waiting, the two suspects were discovered Jose Cardona, an employee of the store, and the owner's son. A struggle ensued and one of the suspects shot and killed Cardona, according to the press release.

On June 1, Prather was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the crime.

On Friday, Campean, of Suitland, Md., plead guilty to "the use of a firearm in a crime of violence causing death" and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 1.
