FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- The family of missing Woodson H.S. teenager Bryan Glenn confirmed late Monday that the body found by searchers in the woods Monday is that of their son. Authorities have not yet officially identified the body as Glenn's.

In a statement Mike and Rosella Glenn said:

With tremendous sadness in our hearts, we learned this afternoon of our son Bryan's death. This devastating news has been a great shock to our family and friends. Right now this family and our community are grieving and we need to let the investigation run its course.

Thanks to everyone in the community and around the globe who offered their love, prayers and support to our family over the past week. Your kindness has given us strength during this difficult time and has touched our hearts forever. Our family would like to express our profound gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers and search team leads. Special thanks to the media and Fairfax area businesses for their continued support.

The missing teen was found in the woods near his parked car on Monday, as 9News's Peggy Fox confirmed.

The searcher who found the body told 9News that he and other searchers must have walked by Bryan Glenn's body several times before finding him, and thought it was another of the searchers. The body was standing under a tree, searchers told Peggy Fox.

Several search parties to look for the teen had taken place since he went missing. On Monday morning, there was another search party at Thaiss Park to look for Glenn.

The 17-year-old was reported missing Monday, October 1.

He was last seen on the campus of WT Woodson High School around 7:15 a.m. last Monday morning, but school officials say he did not show up for classes.

Glenn's vehicle was earlier found in Thaiss Park on Pickett Road.

The Facebook Group Find Bryan Glenn posted an announcement about today's search party: http://on.wusa9.com/Pjcb8X
