ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) -- Police are on the hunt for a man they say stabbed the owner of the car he was trying to break into.

It happened in front of the Pio Pio Restaurant on Wilson Boulevard in the Clarendon section of Arlington.

Police say the stabbing victim was looking out a nearby office window when he noticed a man breaking into his car.

The man then rushed outside to confront the burglar and that's when they began fighting. At some point the car thief pulled out a knife and stabbed the car owner repeatedly in the hands, shoulders, and all over his arms.

The victim, still standing chased the suspect across Wilson boulevard through this restaurant parking lot.

That victim eventually collapsed and was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The suspect got away, and investigators believe he may have gotten away in a white work van he may have stolen from the area.

The suspect is still on the run. He's described as an Hispanic man 28-32 years old weighing about 150 pounds about 5'9 inches tall and was last seen wearing ripped clothing.

Anyone who saw anything or know anything about this suspect is being asked to call police.
