Falls Church Standoff Ends As Armed Man Surrenders

UPDATE 10:16 p.m. - The armed man who had barricaded himself inside a Falls Church house for 28 hours has surrendered after being tasered, according to police.

The man, who was armed and had fired shots during the standoff, was taken to Fairfax Hospital. He faces felony charges. His name has not been released.

The standoff situation brought out a SWAT team as well as officers from several local police departments.

 

UPDATE: Hillwood Avenue remains closed from South Roosevelt Street through Cherry Street. If residents within the barricaded area need to leave their homes, they should call police dispatch at 703-241-5053. If residents need to enter their homes, the need to speak with officers stationed on Hillwood Avenue at Flagmaker Drive.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA) -  Police remain on the scene of a barricade situation that began at about 4:30 p.m. Monday when an armed man barricaded himself inside a home.

A Falls Church Police spokeswoman confirms that officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Hillwood Ave for a domestic incident. A man inside had barricaded himself in the home, alone. He has at least one gun and has fired shots. The shots were fired in the house and did not reach outside the building. Shots were not fired at police.

After 9 p.m., officers broke some windows in the house, placing a substance inside that is inteneded to force the man from the house.

At 10:30 p.m., the man had not surrendered or exited the home.

Then, at 1 a.m. the police made contact with the man. They are currently in negotiations.

Hillwood Avenue is still blocked.

The Fairfax County Police Department SWAT team is on the scene to assist Falls Church Police.
