DALE CITY, VA (WUSA) -- In 2008, The Department of Justice made a decision to deny benefits to the family of a fallen Public Safety Officer in Va. This decision was recently overturned.
The Department of Justice claimed she was not a certified firefighter at the time of her death, but on Friday, June 15, the family of the emergency medical technician was awarded line of duty benefits.
Turnbough was training to be a volunteer firefighter when she suffered a heart attack.
This decision is a win for all public safety officials, and their families who are on the job or in training.
