(WUSA) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers about overnight closures and traffic pattern changes at I-495 north and Route 7 and along I-66 west at I-495 on Friday.
According to VDOT, it will close all lanes of I-495 north just before Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Rt. 7) Friday night to set a 250-ton steel bridge girder, which is part of the 495 Express Lanes project. Starting at 9:30 p.m. Friday, one lane on I-495 north just before Rt. 7 will be closed and all lanes will be closed by 11 p.m. There will be detours.
Additionally, VDOT crews will work overnight to open a third lane along I-66 west over I-495 to relieve congestion in the area. Crews will also reduce the two lane ramp at Exit 49, I-495 south, Outer Loop to I-66 west.
