WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) -- WUSA9's Bruce Johnson talked to a few male students at Howard University today and they certainly feel they are an endangered species and that feeling more than doubled with the slaying of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman.
However, Kenny Azid, a Howard University senior said he is far more concerned about the senseless slayings of young black men at the hands of other black men.
Sophomore Derek Rodriguez agrees.
He was friends with Omar Sykes, a Howard senior killed in an apparent robbery attempt on July 4th just off the main campus in NW DC. The suspect is still at large but the odds say its probably a black male.
Ajani Williams, a senior says he has friends who have been lost in the streets and friends like himself on college campuses trying to make the most of available opportunities.
All three say they learn how to handle themselves given the dangers in the streets.
All said they would have reacted the same way as 17-year-old Trayvon Martin had they been followed by George Zimmerman.
Had Zimmerman identified himself to Trayvon and warned that he had a gun; would the outcome have been different?
All three Howard students said "of course".
