HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- A man was shot in the stomach and backside overnight, according to police.

Hyattsville Police say shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, two groups of known people pulled into the Shell gas station in separate cars on the 5300 block of Queens Chapel Rd. One of the vehicles was a red Toyota.

As the victim was getting out towards the on-site food mart, at least 19 shots were fired.

We're told an officer was in earshot of the gunfire. Police say a short time later, a woman drove herself to the hospital after getting shot in the hand and having a bullet grazed her lip. It's believed she happened to be at the scene of the crime when she was hurt by stray bullets.

Police are looking for a black, four-door compact car.

This story will be updated as details become available.
