The first flakes of the Blizzard of '96 began to fall on yesterday's date around 10 PM. The storm was in full swing on this date in 1996. Heavy snow continued throughout the seventh with thunder snow that night. This storm set the record for the most snow in a snowstorm at Dulles with 25.4". The Blizzard of '96 is the fourth largest recorded snowstorm Downtown with 17.1".  The blizzard brought a bit of snow on Monday the eighth pushing the total to 17.1" thrusting it to the number four position for a single storm record. The Blizzard of '96 slipped into fifth place after the February blizzard in 2010 when National recorded 17.8". Dulles set a new single storm record with that February Super Bowl Blizzard as well with 32.4".

Unrelated to the blizzard it then snowed on Tuesday the ninth and Wednesday the tenth. We saw a sunny day on Thursday the eleventh but another Nor'easter hit on Friday the twelfth. That storm brought a fresh six inches on top of the two feet left by the blizzard.

Unfortunately, we warmed up the following week and had a big rain storm. That storm produced around an inch of rain but that combined with the melting of the snow the Potomac levels were nearly as high as in June of 1972 when the remnants of Agnes left drenched us with nearly a foot of rain.
