WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM) -- It looks like something you would see in a science fiction movie, but it was actually spotted right here in West Michigan.
Kelsey Kakoczki found a giant moth in her backyard and was able to take a picture of it before it flew away. The moth appears to be about 10 inches wide.
Kelsey uploaded the photo on WZZM 13's Facebook page and we asked a Michigan State University entomologist to identify it.
It a cecropia moth (http://bit.ly/ws4dY) and is one of a few species of giant silk moths native to North America, but rare in Michigan.
The entomologist called the picture of the cecropia moth "stunning."
