MENLO PARK, Ca. (WUSA9) -- According to a post on Facebook's security blog, some user contact information could have been exposed.

Information used to make friend recommendations may have provided addresses and phone numbers of six million users to people with whom they might have some connection.

The bug has been present for about a year, but the company found out about it recently.

"At Facebook, we take people's privacy seriously, and we strive to protect people's information to the very best of our ability," Facebook said in a post on their security blog.

The affected users will be notified by email.

Facebook says that there is currently no evidence that the bug was exploited maliciously.
