NEW YORK (WUSA) -- The improper installation of a saddle clamp is what caused seats on a Boston-to-Miami flight to become loose forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in New York's JFK over the weekend, American Airlines said in a statement.

The airline has inspected 47 Boeing 757 airplanes that "have the same model Main Cabin seats with a common locking mechanism," American Airline spokesperson Andrea Huguely said.

"The issue does not seem to be tied to any one maintenance facility or one workgroup," Huguely said. ""The FAA is aware of our internal review and its findings, as well as the steps we are taking to proactively address the issue. We continue to work closely with the FAA."

Passengers aboard the flight that made an emergency landing on Saturday were placed on another aircraft for the trip to Miami.
