WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Marking Veterans' Day 2012 in a special way, the Washington Humane Society (WHS) is saluting and saying thank you to those in service by increasing its discount on pet adoptions for all members of the U.S. military.
Starting Thursday, November 8, U.S. military members showing military ID (active, reserve, or veteran) are eligible for a 50% reduction on adoption fees for all pets. This discount expands the previous 10% reduction under the Pets for Patriots program.
Any potential adopters who choose a new animal friend that meets one or more of the following criteria are also eligible for the Pets for Patriots program: A cat or dog over two years old, a dog weighing more than 40 pounds, or a cat or dog with special medical needs.
Thanks to the Pets for Patriots program, military members are also eligible for discounted veterinary care for the life of their honorably adopted cat or dog, as well as assistance buying food and other pet supplies.
Military adopters will get information about these additional benefits at the time they adopt if they're not already registered with the Pets for Patriots program.
