WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- It was all hugs and kisses and unbridled emotion on Sunday outside the DC National Guard armory, where the many homemade signs said it all: "Welcome Home!"

After 10 months in Afghanistan, 70 members of the National Guard's 273rd Military Police Company were finally back on U.S. soil, greeted by thunderous cheers and a torrent of tears when they arrived Sunday afternoon.

Specialist Solomon Acevero was met by his mother and wife. Like almost all of his fellow company members, Acevero said he was proud to serve his country overseas, but was quick to add that there's no place like home. "Just can't explain how it feels to be back home in the U.S. It's just beautiful," Acevero said.
