Michael Kirby Alvarado killed in shooting in Gaithersburg, Md; police charge 1 suspect, Jefferson Daniel Delgado

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say they have arrested and charged a man in connection to a fatal shooting Thursday afternoon.

Jefferson Daniel Delgado, 20 has been charged with 'First Degree Murder'.  He was arrested on Friday night after he tried to run away from the car that Police had stopped. 

The shooting took place at the 438 North Summit Avenue around 2:28 p.m. Police are still looking for another suspect who ran from the scene in different directions. Twenty-five-year-old Michael Kirby Alvarado was found on the sidewalk in front of a building and was suffering from one or more gunshot wounds on November 21, police said. 

Police believe that Delgado and Alvarado knew each other but the case is still under investigation.  

One suspect was wearing all black clothing and the other suspect was wearing a black and white striped shirt, officials said.

Gaithersburg Elementary School and Forest Oak Middle School, which are in close proximity to the shooting, were on lockdown for a couple of hours.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Tips received through the Crime Solvers program may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
