(WUSA9) -- A Maryland delegate wants to know if it's legal for workers from other state agencies to view the personal information of prospective gun buyers.

Allegany County Democrat Kevin Kelly has written to Attorney General Doug Gansler, according to the Washington Times. He's concerned state police have called on other agencies to help with a gun application backlog.

Tens of thousands of those applications were filed ahead of Maryland's new Firearm Safety Act, which takes effect October 1st.
