LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) --  An argument between race track employees escalated into an attempted pitchfork attack in Laurel, say Anne Arundel County Police, and resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old man.

According to police, at approximately 5:12 a.m. Monday officers responded to the Laurel Race Track in the 3600 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road for a reported assault.  Police say a 27-year-old man reported that he got into an argument with 60-year-old Jose Maria Colindres Salazar. He told police Salazar punched him and then charged at him with a pitchfork. The man was able to fend off the attack by hitting Salazar with an object, say police. He then ran away.

Police were able to find Salazar. He was arrested and then transported to a hospital for treatment of his injury, say police.

Salazar is charged with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

The other man was not injured, according to police.

Police say both men work at the racetrack.
