HOLLYWOOD, Md. (WUSA9) -- Monday morning, St. Mary's County deputies arrested a 19-year-old man following a barricade and charged him with firearms, destruction of property and drug offenses.
According to authorities, at 2:48 a.m. officers responded to a home in Hollywood, Md, for the report of disturbance with a subject inside armed with a handgun and carrying marijuana. Officers saw three people trying to barricade the garage door to prevent entry to the home. Authorities say the three people fled through another door and were detained. A fourth person remained inside armed with a handgun and refused orders to leave the home, say authorities.
Officers set up a perimeter and notified neighbors, according to authorities. St. Mary's County Emergency Services Team and Critical Incident Negotiations Team then responded to the scene. Members tried to contact the person inside but he refused all communication attempts, say authorities. The team then deployed a non-lethal chemical agent into the home, which had no effect on the person, say authorities.
Team members then decided to go into the home. They then arrested 19-year-old Andrew R. Maier of California, Md., say authorities.
Authorities say Maier was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Firearm by person under 21 years of age, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana), three counts Possession of CDS Paraphernalia and Malicious Destruction of Property under $500.
Maier is awaiting an appearance before the District Court Commissioner, say authorities.
