ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - A man convicted of killing his estranged wife and her 11-year-old son is scheduled to be sentenced in Montgomery County.

Curtis Lopez faces the possibility of life without parole when he's sentenced Monday.

Lopez was charged in October 2011 with killing Jane McQuain with a dumbbell and stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Prosecutors say he fatally beat her son with a baseball bat the next day and left his body in the woods.

He was arrested in North Carolina. Prosecutors say the murders were motivated by his desire to steal McQuain's car and other valuable items.

Lopez, an ex-convict who married McQuain while he was in prison, entered an Alford plea, which means that the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that there's enough evidence for a conviction.
