SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police say the shooting a 16-year-old boy on May 10 in Silver Spring may be related to gang activity.
According to police, after receiving multiple calls that night about the sound of gunshots and people running and yelling in the 8700 block of Piney Branch Road officer found a 16-year-old boy shot in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they later determined that the victim was walking with a group of people on the way to a house party in the Quebec Terrace area. "Detectives believe that at least some of these group members are associated with a gang," said police in a press release on Thursday. Police say as the group was walking through the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station in the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road, multiple gun shots ran out. The victim then realized that he had been shot, say police. Detectives believe that the shooting may be gang related.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the 3rd District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835 or make an anonymous call to Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Police say Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
