LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- The 9-year-old girl who was missing overnight was found on Wednesday morning at school.
Police said on Wednesday morning officers had continued looking for the girl who lived near Scotchtown Hills Elementary School. They say she was last seen with several friends in the area of Woodbine Drive. canines and helicopters were used in the search for the girl.
At approximately 7:45 a.m., police and the city mayor announced she was found safe and sound.
A city spokesperson says the girl was found inside the cafeteria after spending the night in a bathroom-locker room area. At this point authorities believe the fourth grader entered the school late Tuesday night while cleaning crews were there. They turned the alarm system off during that time to clean and activated it again when they left, but the spokesperson says authorities believe the girl didn't move around in any manner to set off any motion detector.
