MECHANICSVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Fire investigators say that a fire that injured a woman in St. Mary's County was intentionally set by someone during a house party on Saturday.
According to a press release from the office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, during a house party in the 35900 block of Army Navy Drive in Mechanicsville, someone poured gasoline in a basement laundry room and set a fire. According to officials, at one point there were between 60 and 100 people inside the house. Some people inside the house during the time of the fire had to escape through heavy smoke, say officials.
A 23-year-old woman suffered minor burns to her hands and face and had to be transported to Washington Hospital, according to officials.
Approximately 30 firefighters from departments in Mechanicsville, Hughesville, Newburg, Seventh District and Leonardtown helped get the fire under control in approximately five minutes, say officials. Approximately $25,000 worth of damage was left by the fire.
