WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9)-- African Americans make up roughly 12 percent of the U.S. population, But they make up nearly one third of all missing person cases reported every year.
Some organizations say there is a bias in the media when it comes to profiling certain missing person cases.
The Black and Missing Foundation is on a mission to make sure all missing are on equal footing when it comes to bringing attention to missing person cases.
To raise money and highlight the issue, the Black and Missing Foundation is holding a 5k run/walk May 25th at National Harbor at 8am.
You can register for the event at www.hwb5k.org until May 17th.
