Would-be Robber Killed By Intended Victim

HILLCREST HEIGHTS, MD (WUSA)--Prince George's County Police say a man was apparently shot and killed Sunday by a man he was trying to rob.

Police say that at approximately 12:35 am, May 5, 2013, patrol officers responded to the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway in Hillcrest heights, Md., for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to police officials, the preliminary investigation reveals the man approached two people who were sitting in a car. Detectives believe the man was attempting to rob them.

Police say the would-be robber pulled out a handgun during the incident. A struggle over the handgun ensued between the would-be robber and a man inside the vehicle. During the struggle, the would-be robber was shot.

Police indicate that the occupants of the vehicle are cooperating with detectives and that no criminal charges are being placed at this time.
