FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) - A petition for proposed wind power farm near Frostburg has drawn 127 signatures in support of the project.
Besides the petition, filings with the Maryland Public Service Commission show the commission has received nine letters in support and seven letters against the proposed wind farm.
The Cumberland Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/17mRvCO) that the PSC has also received 89 postcards from residents in favor of the proposal.
Fourmile Wind Energy LLC is seeking to build up to 30 turbines on Fourmile Ridge and the western slope of Big Savage Mountain. The company has said it hopes to begin producing energy at the site by the end of the year. However, three-quarters of the proposed project is in areas designated by the state as sensitive because of rare, threatened and endangered species.
