Accident Snarls Evening Commute in Waldorf

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Saturn passenger car hit a gasoline tanker truck in Waldorf on Thursday, police said.

At approximately 6:25 p.m., Aaron Michael Butler,21, ran into the rear of a gasoline tanker truck carrying approximately 4,500 gallons of gas, police said.

The accident occurred on Crain Highway in Md.

Police say the tanker was inspected by the Maryland State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division and found to be safe to drive.

The driver of the Saturn failed to notice that the tanker truck was slowing down. There was no explosion and no one was hurt. The driver of the Saturn vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to police.

According to police, the roadway of northbound and southbound of route 301 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours.
