COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Three men from D.C. were arrested for stealing two tablet computers from a Sears and assaulting an employee on Wednesday, but not before a police pursuit.

Howard County Police say 18-year-old Jeffrey Clinton Taylor, 20-year-old Richard Randolph Richardson and 22-year-old Eric Charles Bacon approached a Sears sales clerk at the mall in Columbia and asked to see something in the display case of electronics. When the clerk opened the case, one of them shoved the clerk and another took two tablet computers, say police. The men then fled in a 2003 Dodge Caravan.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. a witness to the incident followed their van and called police to notify them about the incident, according to police. Police say officers located the van in the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard in North Laurel and tried to stop it, but the van continued on.  Police say the van eventually hit another vehicle, and the men bailed, leading police on a brief foot chase. Police later found out that the Caravan was stolen from Montgomery County.

The men, who were not injured, were arrested and charged with robbery, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, second degree assault and theft, say police. They are being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $250,000 bail each.
