ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Firefighters in Montgomery County rescued a driver trapped inside a vehicle that went over a guardrail and down an embankment early Tuesday morning.

Police reported the driver had minor injuries, and was transported to Suburban Hospital for further evaluation.

Maryland State Police say the vehicle left the roadway and went approximately 25 feet down an embankment off of the ramp from southbound I-270 to eastbound I-370. Police say the driver was trapped and has suffered injuries. Around 6:19 a.m. rescuers were able to remove the patient on a backboard. The victim was then placed on a waiting stretcher. The victim has minor injuries, according to state police.

The flyover ramp from southbound I-270 to I-370 was completely blocked by the rescue activity, but police say traffic is now moving on the flyover ramp.

A flatbed removed the vehicle that went over the guardrail.
