Horace Vincent Smith Accused Of Holding His Mother-In-Law At Knifepoint, Threatening To Harm Her At Frederick Home

FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- On Tuesday morning, a Frederick man was arrested after reportedly holding his mother-in-law at knife point and threatening to harm her.

According to Frederick police, they received a call at approximately 7:28 a.m. about a man holding his mother-in-law at knife point in a home in the 700 block of Cromwell Ct. Another person identified the man as Horace Vincent Smith while police were on their way to the home. Police were told that Smith threatened to harm to his mother-in-law if the police responded.

Officers set up a perimeter around the home and a Crisis Intervention Team officer called the house to ask Smith to come out of the home. Police say as the phone call was being made, Smith was spotted away from the house emerging from a yard.

Police say "after a brief stand-off" Smith was taken into custody. They did not elaborate about the details of the standoff.

Smith is now charged with first and second degree assault, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment and wear, carry weapon w/intent to injure.
