LAUREL, Md. (AP/WUSA) -- Prince George's County police will conduct its third Gift Cards for Guns event in an effort to reduce gun violence.
Officers will accept guns and ammunition from residents, who will be given a gift cards valued up to $100. Firearms do not need to be functional. Ammunition can also be turned in.
The event is set Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 601 8th St., Laurel.
Residents should put unloaded firearms in the truck of their cars. A uniformed police officer will greet residents and provide instructions.
So far, nearly 300 guns have been turned in.
