STREET, Md. (WUSA/AP) -- Three people died and two were injured in a single car crash in Harford County late on Saturday, Maryland State Police said.
Police say they arrived on the scene shortly before 11:30 p.m. after receiving a call from a driver who said he saw a car off the road. Officers and EMS found the car broken in two pieces, one half of it had fallen into a deep ravine.
A man and woman were found alive and flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Two males and one female were pronounced dead on the scene, Maryland State Police said.
A preliminary investigation shows that the driver lost control of the car, became airborne when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused the car to break in half, police said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation but police say that there is no indication that alcohol was a factor.
State Police identified the driver as 21-year old Tyler Anderson of Jarresttville. State Police say Anderson died in the crash along with 21-year-old Shawn Ponton, of Jarrettsville, and 20-year-old Alexzandria O. McDowell, of Street. Nineteen-year-old Theresa Owensby, of Bel Air, and 21-year-old David Clark, of Street, were injured in the crash and taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, AP reported.
