DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Authorities say that a woman and an 11-year-old boy were injured in a crash at Governor Bridge Road and Davidsonville Road (Route 424) in Davidsonville on Wednesday morning. Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 7:32 a.m.

The 35-year-old woman and the 11-year-old boy were extricated from a car and were airlifted to Washington Hospital Center and to Children's Hospital. Wednesday, police said both the woman and the boy suffered upper body injuries and were listed in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center.

Authorities say that the car was traveling east on Governor Bridge Road and failed to travel around a curve correctly. The car then spun counterclockwise, before sliding off the roadway. It hit a fence and then a tree, according to police.

At this time, it appears speed contributed to the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

Police ask that any witnesses come forward with information. If you have information, please call Anne Arundel County Police at 410-222-8610 or Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
