BLADENSBURG, Md. (WUSA) -- Sunday night, Prince George's County police say a man assaulted a woman at her Bladensburg apartment, fled but returned to the scene. He was later shot by an officer.
According to police, officers went to the 3500 block of 55th Avenue in Bladensburg after a woman called 911, saying she was threatened by her ex-boyfriend. When an officer arrived at her apartment, she told him the former boyfriend had kicked in her apartment door, assaulted her, and then fled the scene.
But while the officer was there the former boyfriend, later identified as Damon Earl Wilson, came back armed with a knife. The officer told Wilson multiple time to drop the weapon, say police, but Wilson refused. He reportedly advanced towards the officer and the officer fired his gun, striking Wilson.
Wilson is "in critical but stable condition" at a hospital, say police.
They have obtained a warrant Wilson, charging him with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and other charges.
The officer who shot Wilson is a four-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol and has been placed on routine administrative leave.
Police continue to investigate.
