(WUSA) -- A tractor-trailer carrying propane overturned on Solomons Island Road (Route 2) on Friday morning. The tanker has a capacity of 10,000 gallons and it's believed to be 90% full.
The accident happened at a traffic circle in the lower part of Anne Arundel County, near Calvert County.
Hazardous chemical crews have made a visible inspection of the tanker and have also taken readings. It does not appear to be leaking, say officials.
Fire personnel on the scene are waiting for the owner to arrive to determine if it is safe to right the tanker with the propane still in it or if they have to off-load it first.
Cox said a 3-mile stretch of Solomons Island Road has been closed and some nearby houses were evacuated.
