WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Andre A. McGant, 54, of Rockville Md. plead guilty on Thursday to a federal charge for failing to update his registration as a sex offender.
In 2002, McGant was convicted of sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl and was required to register as a sex offender in Maryland.
However, in 2008 he informed Maryland's sex offender registry that he was moving to D.C. and would register there, that never happened. McGant continued living in Maryland while registered as a sex offender in D.C. providing a false address.
McGant was arrested in February 2012 by the U.S. Marshals Service, which has launched a nationwide initiative targeting such crimes.
He currently faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and the possibility of a lifetime of supervised release.
