WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- DC Councilman Marion Barry, in a stunning reversal, apologized for giving his girlfriend a city contract for $15,000.
Barry had been defiant just a week ago when he said his actions did not violate any Council rules.
A majority of his colleagues told 9NEWS NOW that they are incensed over Barry's conduct, especially his continued relationship with girlfriend Donna Watts-Brighthaupht.
She once accused Barry of stalking her, which led to his arrest in Anacostia Park on July 4th.
In his apology at Union Temple Church on Tuesday, Barry said, "I didn't use good judgment in recommending a contract to a person whom I was involved with personally".
He continued, "I know my actions, my lack of sound judgment and just plain good sense has led to embarrassment to the city and put political pressure on my colleagues."
The Council is expected to vote to censure Barry, refer his case to the U.S. Attorney's office and maybe even strip him of his committee chairmanship.
